The Pioneers on the Internet

We all learn the history of the internet in our Computer or ICT subject back in highschool and I'm pretty sure that you all know how to use it.

Internet is the most famous and easiest means of communication to other network or terminal and getting informed about something, It used today for education, social networking, news and public information and many more but do we know who are the pioneers on the internet? Who sent the first email? what is the first social network? what is the first picture uploaded? what is the first browser and many more.

In this article, we will find out the first and the pioneers of the Internet.

  • The First Social Network - No, you are wrong, it is not Friendster, the first social networking site was launched way back in the year 1997. It is the "SixDegrees", it is the first social media that allow a user to create a profile and to become friends to other users. The website is lo longer functional today. It was purchased for $125 million dollars in 2000 and was shotdown in 2001. 

  • First Email Sent - The first email was sent by Ray Tomilson, also one of the developers of the file transfer program called CPYNET. The first mail he sent was a test so it was not preserved. He sent something like "QWERTYUIOP". Tomilson later said that these "test messages were entirely forgettable and I have, therefore, forgotten them." Mr. Tomilson died at his home on March 5, 2016
  • The First Picture - The first picture uploaded on the internet is from Tim Berners-Lee, one of the inventors of the internet. The Photo is about the musical group called the "Les Horribles Cernettes", it is a comedy band based at the CERN Laboratory which composed of admin assinstants and CERN scientist.  

  • The First Youtube Video - The first video uploaded on YouTube is the "Me at the Zoo" by one of its co-founder Jawed Karim with the username jawed. It was uploaded at 8:27 p.m on Saturday, April 23, 2005. The 19 second video was recorded by his high school friend, Yakov Lapitsky at the San Diego Zoo featuring Karim in front of the Elephants.

  • The First Tweet Ever - The First tweet was posted by one of the Co-Founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey which is "Just setting up my twittr" but it is an automated tweet for new member before, so the first tweet ever written by a human is his second tweet "inviting coworkers" on March 21, 2006.   • First Sentence Uttered on Skype - And also the most used sentence uttered on skype right at the most present time is by one of its development team. It was in estonian saying "Tere, kas sa kuuled mind" or in english "hello, can you hear me?"


  • First Instant Message - The first instant message was sent thru AOL by Ted Leonis to his wife on January 6, 1993. It read, "Don't be scared... it is me. Love you and miss you" His wife replied "Wow, this is so cool".

  • First Web Browser - The first web browser is the WorldWideWeb. It was developed in 1990 by Tim Berners-Lee for the NeXT computers.

The "Most" of Youtube

YouTube is the most popular video-sharing site on the internet, it was created by by three former employees of Paypal in February 2005 and has been owned by Google since 2006. According to YouTube, users worldwide upload 100 hours of video each minute and more than 6 billion hours of video are watched each month. 

Do you know that there are over billions videos on YouTube, and about 200,000 is uploaded everyday. You need over 600 years to watched all the videos uploaded by 300 thousand accounts on the website. 

But with all the million videos uploaded, there are some that stand out, or what most netizens use to say, "gone viral". Now let's see what are the "Most" on Youtube 
  • Most Viewed Music Video of All Time - This title belong to no other than PSY's hit song "Gangnam Style", it is the first video on YouTube that hit over 2 billion views on May 2014, it surpassed the old "Baby" of Justin Bieber in November 2012. It is also the first YouTube video that hit 1 billion views. PSY's second hit song, Gentleman also in the top ten of the most watched on YouTube with over 700 million views.


  • Most Viewed Viral Video of All Time - Time to bite your finger because it's "Charlie Bit my Finger". The video is simply features two brother sitting in a chair, and when Charlie bit his brother’s finger, Harry repeatedly says ouch, and his brother begins to giggle, afterwards, Harry smiles and says “Charlie, bit me”

    The video ranks as the fourth most viewed video on YouTube with approximately 700 million views. The 56-second long video was uploaded on Youtube in May 2007 by Howard Davies-Carr, the father of the boys. According to the report, the family made over $500,000 off advertising revenue from the video, that is almost like winning a lottery.

  • Most Liked Video - According to Buzzfeed, the title still belongs to PSY's Gangnam Style with over 8 millions likes followed Ylvis hit song "The Fox" (What Does the Fox Say) with over 3 million likes. 
  • Most Disliked Video - The award belong to the song "Friday" by Rebecca Black with over 1 million dislikes, even though Justin Bieber's Baby have more dislikes with 2 million thumbs down, Friday was once had over 3 million negative votes but the video was later removed, and has been officially re-uploaded. 

    The Song was written and produced by Los Angeles record producers Clarence Jey and Patrice Wilson and released by ARK Music Factory on March 14, 2011. The song has receive universally negative reviews. Michael  Nelson called it Worst Video Ever Made on twitter and maybe The Worst Song Ever asked by Lyndsey parker on Yahoo! Music.

  • Most Subscribed Channel of All Time - And maybe the richest vlogger in the internet today, with over 32 million subscribers and over 6.2 billion total video views. PewDiePie holds the position in the top 1 since August 2013.

    PewDiePie is popular of being a game commentator on Youtube. He is known of playing video games while recording it,  but not in the traditional video walkthroughs, He describe it as "sharing gaming experience with my bros". He also support Independent Game Developers, and according to a reliable source, games featured on PewDiePie Channel have experience increased in sales.

    According to CelebrityNetWorth[dot]Com, PewDiePie net worth as of 2014 is $10 million.

    In June 2014, The Wall Street Journal reported PewDiePie earning $4 million a year.
